The James River Batteau Festival is an annual eight-day land & river festival in Virginia that celebrates the unique history of the batteau, a type of flat-bottomed boat often used to navigate the shallow waters of the James River. The batteaux travel the river from Lynchburg to Richmond & relive the river trade of the late 1700's & early 1800's. In the summer of 2001, Dreaming Creek entered a timber frame gondola into the festival. Since then, the Dreaming Creek Rocket has become a recurring fixture in the festival. Manned by friends & family alike, it is a wonderful time for reflection & to experience a bygone era.
