After dreaming, planning and designing your timber frame, it is only fitting to use the finest timbers available. Our experienced mill personnel work the timbers and ship them to our beamery, where they are expertly tooled and prepared for assembly and raising. The ends of timbers are jointed and edges are chiseled by hand for a custom fit. All detailing is added to timbers before shipment.
An Engineering Students Project
Dreaming Creek has enjoyed working with the local community for three
decades. The greatest satisfaction of working with the community has come
from the Vocational department. I particularly enjoy seeing the looks on
their faces when they see real heavy timbers for the fist time, it brings
back memories of why I got started in this business in the first place.
Over the years several students stand out as exceptional. Lance Shields is
one of these young men. Lance entered Mr. Jim Henderson's class with zero
timber background. During his time in Mr. Hendersons class Lance became
familiar with Timber Framing, authentic joinery and autocad designing. In no
time,Lance was " challenging" his teacher & me for better stronger ways of
doing joinery.
Upon graduation from Powhatan High School Lance went on to J. Sargeant Reynolds Community College to prepare himself for his real dream of becoming a
structural engineer through Virginia Tech. Currently he is a Master's of
science student in Civil Engineering at Virginia Tech, and is conducting
research on the tension strength of keyed through tenon joints under the
direction of Dr. Daniel Hindman in the Department of Wood Science and Forest
Products. The purpose of this research is to investigate the structural
benefits of this joint given the design flexibility for sizing members
without affecting the strength of the associated timbers.
We at Dreaming Creek are very proud to know such a fine young man that has
taken an interest in our industry. His structural analysis helps us improve
the work we do today. We wish him many years of success.
